Kuyen, Maipo Valley, 2017

Kuyen, Maipo Valley, 2017

Lot: 1136 Supplier: ANTIYAL Y CÍA. LTDA Country/Region: Chile/Maipo Valley Major Grape: Syrah

Kuyen 2017 is medium to full bodied. Opaque in colour, it has youthful aromas of blackcurrant fruit, vanilla and blackberries with floral notes. More savoury notes emerge on the palate as the tannin structure shows through on the finish. It is well balanced with a savoury, bitter cherry finish and a solid structure, and will benefit from some cellaring before drinking. The moon's phases are an important consideration in biodynamic viticulture for the timing of vineyard work and treatments. In fact, Kuyen is a Mapuche word for moon. Kuyen 2017 is a blend of 55% Syrah, 19% Carmenère, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot. Each variety was harvested and fermented separately, then matured in oak for a year with 20% new, 40% one-year and 40% two-year-old barrels.
